This collection brings together some favorites of mine, selected for their diverse forms, habitats, and colors that showcase the rich variety of California flora.
The delicate fronds of Adiantum jordanii (California Maidenhair Fern) create beautiful contrast with the sturdy, evergreen presence of Polystichum munitum (Western Sword Fern). Bright Eschscholzia californica (California Poppy) thrives in open, sunny meadows, while shade-loving ferns evoke the cool tranquility of forest floors. The charming round leaves of Claytonia perfoliata (Rooreh or Miner's Lettuce) and subtle purple blooms of Solanum xanti (Purple Nightshade) reward careful observation on woodland walks.
The tiered blooms of Collinsia heterophylla (Purple Chinese Houses), the distinctive red spires of Delphinium nudicaule (Red Larkspur), and the simple elegance of Sisyrinchium bellum (Western Blue-eyed Grass) add varied colors and forms. The arching stems of Maianthemum stellatum (False Solomon's Seal) complete the set with their graceful leaf arrangement that catches dappled light so beautifully.
Each print is made by the artist using archival quality pigment ink on Moab's Entrada Rag Bright 300 paper.
