Milkmaids

from $70.00

Milkmaids, Cardamine californica, signal that warmer days are coming, as it’s one of the earliest wildflowers to bloom in California.

These tiny white blooms are highly responsive to their environment, bowing their heads when rain is coming to protect their pollen and closing up in the late afternoon when the sun begins to set. It is a particularly important host plant for the Sara Orangetip butterfly, Anthocharis sara, a California native species whose caterpillars feed on plants in the mustard family, including milkmaids.

Each print is made by the artist using archival quality pigment ink on Moab's Entrada Rag Bright 300 paper.
